Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Walk-ins are welcome when a stylist is between clients, but braiding, wig installations, color and full sets of nails each need a block of time, so those really do need booking in advance.

The salon is at 2839 Church Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11226, in Flatbush, a short walk from the Church Avenue and Flatbush Avenue connections. It sits on a busy Brooklyn corridor with plenty of storefronts around it, so the entrance is easy to spot from the sidewalk. If you are coming from Queens, Manhattan or New Jersey, the drive in is usually straightforward outside of the evening rush.

What are your opening hours?

The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, and on Sunday by appointment only. It is closed on Monday, and the last client is taken at 6:30 pm. Terry works Tuesday through Saturday. Longer services — braids, a wig installation or a full-body wax — need to start early enough to finish before closing, so mention the service when you call.

Do you cut and style men's and children's hair as well?

Yes. Level 1 Beauty Lounge is a unisex salon, and children are welcome. Men's cuts, women's cuts and kids' cuts are all on the menu, whether the hair is short, long, straight, curly, relaxed, natural or textured. Bring a photo of what you have in mind, and tell the stylist how much time you actually spend on your hair each morning — that conversation decides more about the finished look than the picture does.

Can my hair be colored if it has already been dyed or relaxed?

In most cases yes, but previously treated hair needs to be assessed before anything is mixed. The stylist looks at what has already been applied, how long ago, how the hair has been maintained since, and how much of the length is sound. That assessment decides whether the color can go in the same visit or whether it should be spread over two appointments to keep the hair healthy. Bring your history with you — box color, relaxer, texturizer or a salon service from somewhere else all matter, and none of them are a problem worth hiding.

How long do braids and a wig installation last before I need to come back?

Braids and installations are designed to be worn for a defined period, and the right length of time depends on your hair's growth rate, how tight the style sits at the scalp, and how you protect it at night. Washing frequency, swimming and how carefully you wrap the hair before bed all change the answer. At the consultation the stylist will tell you what to expect for your hair and when to book the take-down or the next set, and the aftercare you follow at home decides whether you get the full wear out of it.

Do you serve clients outside Brooklyn?

Yes. Clients come in from Flatbush, East Flatbush, Midwood, Kensington, Ocean Park, Brownsville, Canarsie, East New York, Crown Heights and Prospect Park, and from across the river in Jersey City, Newark, Elizabeth and Paterson in New Jersey, plus Yonkers in the north. The salon is a twenty-five-mile radius operation, and most people who make the trip once keep the same stylist and book the next visit before they leave.

How should I prepare for a wig installation or an extension appointment?

Accepted Answer

Come with clean, fully dry hair and no heavy oils, creams or gel built up on the scalp, because a clean base holds a better and longer-lasting result. Do not apply conditioner to the roots the morning of the appointment. Bring the unit or the extensions you want fitted, along with any bands, clips or stock you prefer to use, and bring the photo of the finished look you want. If you are unsure what will suit your face shape and daily routine, bring two options and the stylist will tell you which is realistic.

Sundays are by appointment only. Call 718-856-7575 or send us a text a few days ahead with the service you want, and we will tell you whether a Sunday slot is free. The salon is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:30 pm, and is closed on Mondays.

The last client is taken at 6:30 pm. Longer services such as braids, wig installations and color need to start earlier in the day so they can be finished properly, so mention the service when you book and we will suggest a start time that works.

Level 1 Beauty Lounge is at 2839 Church Avenue, between Church Avenue and Rogers Avenue. The closest stop is Church Avenue on the 2 and 5 trains, a short walk from the door.

Prices are not listed on the website because they depend on your hair length, its condition and what you want done. You get a quote during the consultation, before any work begins. If you change or add services during the visit, the price may change accordingly.

Do you travel for weddings, birthdays and special events?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Besides the salon in Brooklyn, we travel for weddings, special occasions and birthdays, including Boston, Washington D.C., Delaware and Florida, and further afield on request. Call from anywhere to talk through the date, the location and the looks you need.

Can I send photos of my hair before I book?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The request form on the Contact page lets you upload a photo or short video of your current hair and an inspiration photo of the look you want. That helps the stylist plan the right service and length of appointment before you come in.

Can I book if I live outside Brooklyn?

Accepted Answer

Of course. Clients call from all over, not just Brooklyn. Many travel in from nearby neighborhoods within about ten miles, and others plan a visit around a trip to New York. Call or send us a text and we will find a time that fits.
